Blooming Babies

These whimsical hats are hand crocheted and topped with a huge bloom -- a look that few adults could pull off, but on a baby they're to die for! Bloomin' Hats by Maggie's Rose are available in a variety of styles and colors, but since they're handmade quantities are limited. $18-44 at itsybitsybabyboutique.com

Past Cravings

Baby Ava Flip Flops. Sure, Summer is almost over, but we just couldn't resist these adorable baby flip flops. Each pair is hand-made to order by one very clever mama. The flip flops have a soft foam sole and adorable ribbon straps, there are styles for boys and girls. For prewalkers only. $18 at babyavadesigns.com.
Tell Me!. This colorful deck of cards is designed to get your family talking -- about something other then who hit who. Perfect on road trips to entertain those little, wary travelers and dozing-driver Dad. $17 at madallie.com.
Need a Kaboost?. There are few finer days in a mother's life than when she wipes down that hideous highchair for the last time. Now you can say good riddance ahead of schedule by giving your regular dining room chair a Kaboost -- this brand new, and very clever contraption elevates a regular chair to the perfect height for your little one. The Kaboost adjusts to fit legs of almost any chair and is safely designed with anti-slip plastic. Goes on sale August 15th! Available in green, chocolate and natural for $40 at kaboost.com.
Look Ma, Real Postage!. We've been waiting for an excuse to try it out Photostamps, so with the recent postage rate increase, we went for it. It's so easy (and fun) to upload your photos and preview the stamps online -- the Statue of Liberty's got nothing on your little Lucy. No doubt we'll be finding all kinds of reasons to send a note via snail mail. Available in several postage denominations at photostamps.com.
Itzy-Bitzy. Hip children's clothier Zutano recently launched a collection of newborn clothes called Itzy-Bitzy, designed for brand new babies. The ultimate bringing home baby outfits -- they'll actually fit your little one just as soon as they're born. Perfect for those impatient moms (like us!) who hate waiting for baby to grow into things. We also adore the hip styles and prints, which are anything but babyish. $8-20 at OlieBolen.com.
Janod Pyramid Blocks. A staple from childhood -- our nesting blocks were not nearly as neat as this hard-to-find pyramid set from the clever French toymaker Janod. As junior spends endless hours stacking them up and knocking them down these snappy blocks will be teaching your little einstein numbers, colors and balance. $30 available for a limited time in the United States at Target stores.
YoonKids. Your kid is too cool to have Dora and Spongebob plastered on their walls. Luckily, the Yoon sisters have created a brilliant collection of modern cartoons that will reflect your little one's dreams and desires. The heart of the line are the YoonKids, a series of characters (from princess to scientist) all worthy of your child's admiration. YoonKids isn't just for kids... we loved the Silhouettes collection (shown left) even for more grown-up rooms. $85-150 at yoonkids.com.
Spelling Bee. These fun wooden letters are created by a mother-daughter team in Massachusetts. They have designed two different alphabets using bright or pastel colors. Mix and match to create your little one's name or favorite words. $6 per letter at tatutina.com.
Anywhere Bib. These genius Bib Clips from Kipiis let you make an instant bib from just about anything, anywhere. Clip them onto whatever's handy (a napkin, kitchen towel, etc.) and your child's covered. Our favorite part? No more hauling disgusting used bibs in your diaper bag -- just the Kipiis Clips go back in your bag. $12 at kipiis.com.
Special K Chocolatey Delight. So I'll freely admit that normally cereal would NOT be the thing to top our craving's list. But the new Chocolatey Delight cereal from Special K isn't exactly normal either. For starters, it has REAL chocolate bits in it -- we're talking chopped up Dove bar NOT Cocoa Puffs -- combined with the crunchy rice and wheat flakes (the healthy part) and milk, this cereal has a flavor akin to eating the cone part of a Drumstick (which everyone knows is the best part). A bowl full with milk has only 160 Calories. You can grab a box in the cereal aisle of your local grocer.
Rudolph and Frosty. Remember Frosty the Snowman? And I'm sure you would never forget Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. When I was a kid, I remember watching these classic movies on TV every Christmas. Watching them again now, the Abominable Snowman isn't nearly as scary as he used to be, although to my daughter he is still quite a fright, which is probably why she prefers Frosty. This new DVD set has Frosty, Rudolph and several other classic Chrismas films. $28 with free shipping at amazon.com.
Classic Christmas. You've probably heard and even recited many times the 'Twas the Night Before Christmas story. We've never seen it captured more beautifully then in this new storybook with exquisite black and white illustrations by Matt Tavares. This version captures the exact spelling and phrasing of the original text published in 1823, making it interesting reading even for those that have heard the story over and over. We think it's destined to become a beloved family keepsake -- hard to believe it is only $9 at amazon.com.
MAdrianne Jewelry. Golden freshwater pearls are an elegant Fall accessory, and MAdrianne's extra-long strand is exactly on trend. Quickly upgrade a
t-shirt and jeans or pair it with your favorite black dress for a Holiday party. Whatever you do, go quickly to MAdrianne.com and take advantage of their fall clearance -- everything is 50 percent off! You'll find this necklace (only $35) and a host of other handmade necklaces, bracelets and earrings.
Bumbo Seat. We were immediately intrigued by these new foam seats, which promise to help baby sit from the moment she can hold her head up. We all remember that frustrating stage where baby fusses whenever you lay her down simply because she wants to look at something other than the ceiling. Made from super-soft, squishy foam the Bumbo seat holds baby upright -- in a perfect orthopedic position -- giving her a front-row seat to the world. $40 at bumboseat.com or target.com.

Jane Marvel. If boring wicker baskets or clunky plastic bins aren't really the look you had in mind, you're not alone! Designer Jane Saidenberg set out on a mission to create storage solutions that looked good while working overtime. We love her Zip Boxes, Pouches, and Nesting Cubes to contain all that kiddy clutter (toys, blankets, etc). Available in 13 very cool fabrics that are PVC coated so they'll always look brand new. $26-78 at janemarvel.com.
